After the reboot that is initiated by winnt32.exe (XP version) the system won't boot anymore. The reason for this is that Vista uses a new bootloader but XP setup only installes XP According to a Technet article I found XP setup overwrites the MBR, which is why the Vista bootloader won't be used anymore.

Won't hurt. The ideal thing would be to simply do a fresh install of Vista from the XP desktop but I can understand that you might not want to do that. Ok, I will give it another shot then. When installing additional 2 G's Vista hangs during boot. The last driver loaded is CRCDISK.SYS. The bios recognizes 4G and booting XP from boot CD gives no problems. That one will allow you to choose to re-install Vista or "repair" Vista. Choose REPAIR. Another screen will appear called something like Recovery Options. did nothing for 2-3 hours. my whole system was frozen and could do nothin apart from switch the whole lot off. the problem now is it won't reboot and start.
