I was beginning to think about trying Quicken, but now see that it won't work w/ Vista either. You would think that MS would make some of their own stuff work with Vista. (then more about insert system disk...)" and the same symptoms -- won't boot But my computer (technically) won't boot! :) Technically, your computer does boot. The problem is the Vista DVD loader does the booting.

If my printer is turned off, Vista will not cold-boot (restores from hibernate with no trouble, though). As well, some applications or installers won't function properly (ATI If so, then it is a driver issue with the printer, and once it is physically disconnected, you should be able to attach another printer.

I whacked the drive around a couple times, hoping to jostle something and get another 10 minutes of working life out of it to save some data, So, here's the catch... i remove it again since it's hasta la vista for it, and reboot.
