Different manufacturers set this up in different ways but so far all the computers I've worked on have had this option available in one way or another. So the DVD isn't necessary? Same as XP. If Windows won't boot then you can do a system restore while booted from the repair environment.

Vista won't boot from USB Hard Drive!
All images can be seen using another file viewer (windows/thumbsplus) When freshly installed Picassa will build up the image database in about 15mins. It all looks ok but when closed it Fully patched vista sw. No other probs with sw (no new sw added). It may be something simple - but it certainly isn't obvious.

Vista & Quicken 2004 won't start
As suggested I hooked up my HDD as a "slave" and can see all my data is on there and safe so I`ll leave that alone untill I get another decent PC going and then get it Thanks again! Computer Failure
Simply boot with your Windows XP cd and install a new copy of XP on another free partition (like where Vista was). DON'T INSTALL IT WHERE YOUR But now it won't boot into XP. Is there ANY way to get Vista to boot and run from USB hard drive? If I were to reinstall the whole damn thing from scratch (a time consuming endeavor) would it let me install onto USB HD and would THAT USB HD boot up and run, or would I just be wasting yet another afternoon trying to get this happening?
